Expanding Nepali Network in Japan
Date: July 4, 2024, Thursday, 1:15 PM - 3:00 PM
Venue: Hitotsubashi University, West Campus, Main Building, Room 33
English was used.

The students of the Planning and Implementation class successfully organized the academic lecture, "Expanding Nepali Network in Japan," on 4 July 2024. The guest lecturer, Dr. Dipesh Kharel, a visual anthropologist based in the University of Tokyo, spoke about the Nepalese migration to Japan. He also shared parts of his documentary, Japani, and engaged the attendees in dynamic conversations about the Nepali community in Tokyo and about migration trends in general. The event was attended by more than 20 participants, most of whom were students of the Transnational Sociology seminars at Hitotsubashi University and members of the Kunitachi Debate club.

To plan the event, the student organizers first selected a theme which they deemed relevant and interesting to broader audiences. Having selected their theme, they read up on it and invited Dr. Kharel whose works resonated with them.

Credits for the event (from conceptualization to promotion to implementation) go to the student organizers: Chika Tomita, Kaho Hirosako, Yiming Liu, Yusuke Takeuchi. See their press release here. We thank Dr. Kharel and the participants for enlivening the event.

Til the next one!
