Place: Metro Manila, Philippines
Course: Overseas Fieldwork (2 units)

Five 2nd year undergraduate students and one coordinator of the Global Leaders Program, Faculty of Social Sciences went to Manila for a week as part of the course, "Overseas Fieldwork: GLP Philippines." In partnership with Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), they arrived on February 7, Friday, and were lodged at the student dormitory, My Place Residence Hall.

From Monday to Thursday, they immersed in university life by attending classes, engaging with professors and researchers, and walking around the nearby communities of Katipunan (in Quezon City) and Barangka (in Marikina City). In between these activities, they dined in Filipino restaurants and toured the historic Walled City of Intramuros and Binondo Chinatown.

The objectives of the short-term study trip were for students to:

  • * Build a network with students in the Philippines
  • * Identify the benefits and challenges of studying abroad, in preparation for their long-term study abroad program in academic year 2025-2026, and
  • * Examine an aspect of Philippine society using methods in the social sciences, and report their findings for a broad audience.

Were these objectives met? At least for the last one, you can find out from their reports which will be published on this website next month.
