The students in Planning and Implementation hosted an inspiring academic event. The program included a lecture on English education policy by Erika Azegami and a discussion of debate as an educational tool by Amane Kawano, followed by a model debate session by Hitotsubashi debate section.
Erika Azegami's lecture explored the evolution of English education policy in Japan, particularly the balance between utilitarianism and non-utilitarianism approach. Her analysis highlighted the shift towards practical English, such as focusing on communicative English, and the challenges faced by educators applying the change. Amane Kawano provided insights into the use of debate in education. His lecture emphasized its potential to improve abilities of students such as critical thinking skills, and discussed the practical issues to introduce debate to class. The model debate session provided an opportunity to observe and discuss the application of debate in education.
