On July 4th, students held an academic lecture event titled ‘Gender Inequality in Japanese Workplace’.
As a guest speaker, we welcomed Dr. Wataru Yoshida from the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research (IPSS), a researcher and sociologist specializing in quantitative research on the hiring behavior of Japan’s major companies.
Dr. Yoshida shared his research findings and insights on gender imbalance in the ratio of new hires in his lecture. The multiangle analysis provided in the lecture helped us understand the current situation surrounding gender and initiatives for equality in Japanese companies.
After the main lecture by Dr. Yoshida, another guest speaker, Ms. Rinko Matsushita (student in the Faculty of Social Sciences of Hitotsubashi University), joined the engaging panel discussion. They discussed gender issues in Japanese business from diverse perspectives, including the impact of evolving recruitment practices on women’s career development.
Event hosting credit goes to student organizers, Ayano Nakamura, Haruna Okawa, and Yoshimi Yang. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Yoshida, Ms. Rinko Matsushita and all who participated.
