GLP Philippines AY 2024

At the end of the academic year 2024, five GLP students went to Manila, Philippines for an 8-day overseas fieldwork.

They first prepared for the trip by reading and discussing materials about Manila and the Philippines.

On the first two days of the trip, the participants met students from Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines in informal set-ups such as campus tours. The rest of the fieldwork was devoted to attending regularly classes which the participants themselves selected beforehand, walking around local neighrborhoods with the GLP coordinator, and experiencing Manila as social sciences students in the field.

As part of their course requirements, the students conducted their own research by visiting the sites, conversing with people, and conducting mini-surveys. Some of the reports are posted here with their permission.

* GLP students were guided by the GLP coordinator in their research only through periodic consultations. Finding key informants, conducting the surveys, and communing to the actual research site, as well as the selection of the topic, were entirely their own. Likewise, the writing and the idesa in the reports are theirs.
