2025 was a busy year for GLP Social Sciences.
Starting with the tail-end of AY 2024 Winter Term, five GLP students and the GLP coordinator went to Manila for a week in February. In Manila, the social sciences students immersed in neighborhoods, local malls, and university life, learning skills in fieldwork and gaining friends and experiences along the way.
Come April, the Program welcomed eleven 2nd year students who passed the document and interview screening that winter. They began their GLP journey in GLP Seminar I, wherein they learned and practiced basic academic research, writing, presentation, and discussion in English.
Meanwhile, 3rd year students of GLP Seminar II-A engaged invited experts whose specializations aligned with their interests. The Seminar capped with an online forum where the GLP students and several peers in Manila gathered to present and discuss their research in an academic setting.
While 2nd and 3rd year students of the GLP Seminars honed their skills in academic research, writing, presentation, and discussion, students of the Planning and Implementation (one of the Program’s capstone courses) applied their skills in communication, research, organization, and teamwork to put up two academic events.
In August, nine 2nd year students, the GLP coordinator, and the soon-to-be GLP TA toured Davao City, Philippines for a week. They visited museums, memorials, and wildlife sanctuaries, as well as met peers from Ateneo de Davao University and University of the Philippines Mindanao.
The Autumn-Winter term saw the resumption of the 2nd year students’ yearlong GLP Seminar I. And, now that the 3rd years had gone to their study abroad, the 4th years – fresh from their own overseas travels – returned for GLP Seminar II-B.
The Autumn-Winter term concluded with six (SIX!) successful activities. Another batch of Planning and Implementation students organized three very different academic events, showcasing the diversity of their interests and capacities.

Parallel to the three student-organized events, some 4th year students and the GLP TA shared their research in the GLP Capstone Presentations. The public event was attended by the GLP 2nd year students who themselves gave thoughtful comments to their GLP seniors.

Many heartfelt thanks to those who made these events happen – the guest experts, the event participants, the university staff, and of course the GLP students and TA.
Here’s to a fruitful 2026!
